Real Madrid Castilla Squad Preview: 2011/2012

Real Madrid Castilla began their season two weeks ago on August 21, 2011. Castilla play in the second division B. Here is a brief introduction to our squad:

Tomás Mejías Osorio (Goalkeeper) - Tomas joined the Real Madrid Academy in 2001 from Coslada. He was promoted to Castilla in 2008. Mejías made his senior team debut against Getafe CF on May 10, 2011. He replaced Antonio Adán for the last 10 minutes in a 4–0 home win. He accompanied the senior squad in the preseason tour of the U.S. and China earlier this year. He was named in the 20-man senior squad against Real Zaragoza. This 6 '5' keeper will serve as the third choice keeper behind Iker Casillas and Antonio Adan. Mejias was part of the Spanish U-20 squad that won the Mediterranean Cup.

Jesus Fernandez Collado (Goalkeeper) - Jesus joined Real Madrid from the second division team Numancia in 2010. He had stints at Adarve, Villareal and Getafe as a youth before joining Numancia B in 2007. Jesus made his senior team debut on May 21, 2011 in the 78th minute of a 8–1 home win against UD Almeria. He replaced the departing Jerzey Deudek. He accompanied the senior squad in the preseason tour of the U.S. and China. Jesus looks to be the first-choice keeper for Castilla, since Mejias is training with the first team.

 

 

Isaac Becerra Alguacil (Goalkeeper) - Isaac joined Real Madrid in 2010 from Espanyol. Isaac started his youth career at Barcelona. After spells at Damm and Ferran Martorell, he joined Espanyol. He was promoted to the Espanyol B Team in 2007 and played in the second division. He was loaned out to Greek side Panionios during the 2009-2010 season. Isaac was part of the Spain’s U-19 squad that won UEFA Championship in 2007.

Daniel Carvajal Ramos (Right Back) - Carvajal joined the Real Madrid Academy from Lemanes in 2002. He was promoted to Castilla in 2010 and established himself on the squad. Carvajal has been regularly called up for Spain's youth sides representing them both at the U-18 and U-19 level. The 20-year-old was an integral part of Spain's U-19 squad that won the Euro Champions earlier in 2011.

José Ignacio Fernández Iglesias(Central Back) - Nacho joined the Real Madrid Academy at the age of 11 from Complutense Nadador in 2001. He rose through the Academy and was promoted to the Castilla squad in 2009 where he became a regular. On April 23, 2011, Nacho made his first-team debut, starting in a 3–6 away win against Valencia CF, and playing in the entire match. Nacho has been called up by Spain at the U-16, U -17, U- 19 and U-21 levels and was part of U-17 squad that won the Euro U-17 Championship in 2011. He was part of the summer preseason tour of the US. He is the older brother of Castilla midfielder Alex.

Pablo Gil Sarrión(Central Back) - Pablo Gil joined Real Madrid from the second division side Albacete in 2010. He started his youth career at Albacete and was promoted to the main squad in 2007. He played over 40 games for them in the second division before moving to Real Madrid. He was also part of the Spain’s U-19 side that won European Championship in 2007. Pablo is a versatile player who can also play right back.

Ivan Gonzalez Lopez(Central Back) – Ivan joined Real Madrid from la Liga side Malaga on loan in 2011. He started his youth career at Torremolinos and moved to Malaga in 2005. He was promoted to the reserve side in 2007. Ivan made his la Liga debut with Malaga on Nov. 22, 2009 in a 1-1 draw against Real Zaragoza. He rescued his side from defeat by scoring with his head in the 74th minute. Ivan played 29 games for Malaga before being deemed unnecessary with the arrival of Manuel Pelligrini. He was loaned out to Castilla for the rest of this season and the following one.

Pedro Mendes (Central Back) - Mendes joined Real Madrid Castilla on loan from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2011. Mendes, who was born in Switzerland, started his youth career at Real Massama and moved to Sporting Lisbon in 2003. He was promoted to Sporting Lisbon’s main squad in 2009. He was loaned out to Real Massama for the 2009-2010 season and then to Swiss side Servette for the 2010-2011 season. Mendes played in the last few minutes of the friendly Bernabeu Cup in August 2011.

Jorge Casado Rodríguez (Left back) - Casado joined Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano in 2010. He played out his youth career at Villa Rosa and Rayo before being promoted to the Rayo reserve side in 2009. Casado accompanied the main squad in the preseason tour of the U.S.

José Antonio Ríos Reina (Left back) – Rios joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in 2011. He started his youth career at Castiblanco and moved to Sevilla youth setup in 2001. This is his first season with Castilla.

Armando Sosa Pena (Central midfielder) - Mandi joined Real Madrid from Villarreal in 2010. He played at San Fernando and Maspalomas as a youth before joining Vecindario. Mandi was promoted to the Vecindario in 2008. He signed for Villarreal in 2009. Mandi was loaned out to Ponferradina for the 2009-2010 seasons. He has since been a regular fixture on the Castilla side. Mandi was also called up to the Spain U -19 in 2008.

Alejandro Fernandez Iglesias (Central midfielder) - Alex joined the Real Madrid Academy from Alcala in 2005. He played at both Complutense and Alcala as a youth. Alex was promoted to the Castilla squad in 2010. He accompanied the squad in the 2010 U.S. preseason tour. Alex made his first team debut on March 6, playing the last few minutes of the 3–1 away win over Racing Santander. Alex has been called up for Spain at the U-17, U-18, and U-19 and U-20 squad in the last few years. He was an integral part of the Spanish U-19 squad the won the Euro U-19 Championship in 2011. He is the younger brother of Castilla defender Nacho.

Antonio Martinez Felipe (Defensive Midfielder) – Martinez joined the Real Madrid Academy from Arganda in 2002. He played at la Poveda and Arganda as a youth before moving to the Academy. Martinez was promoted to the Castilla squad in 2010 but was kept out with a long-term injury untill February 2011. He was called up to the Spanish U-16 squad in 2005.

Víctor Merchán de Antonio(Central Midfielder)  - Merchan joined the Real Madrid Academy in 2000 from Fuenlabrada. He rose through the Academy ranks and was promoted to the Castilla squad in 2010. Merchan has been called up to represent Spain at the U-15 and U-16 levels.

Omar Mascarell González (Central Midefilder) – Omar joined the Real Madrid Academy in 2010 from Laguna. He played at Santa Cruz and Tegueste as a youth, moving to Laguna in 2007. Omar was promoted to the Castilla side in 2011. This is his first season with Real Madrid Castilla.

Lucas Vázquez Iglesias (Right Midfielder) - Lucas joined the Real Madrid Academy from Ural CF in 2007. He played out his youth career at Curtis and Ural CF. Lucas was promoted to the Castilla side in 2011 and made his Castilla debut on August 21 t in a 1–0 win over Sporting Gijon B. 

José Zamora Girona (Right Winger) - Zamora joined Real Madrid from Eibar in 2008. He played at Jupiter, Gramanet and Espanyol as a youth before moving to the Espanyol B side in 2006. He moved to Eibar in 2008. Zamora joined Ponferradina on loan for the 2009-2010 and joined Swedish side Halmstads on loan for the end of 2010-2011 season. Zamora was an integral part of the Spain U-19 squad that won the Euro U-19 Championshio in 2007.

Raúl Ruiz Matarín (Right Winger) - Raul joined Real Madrid from Hercules in 2009. He played at Sporting Plaza Argel and moved to Hercules in 2000. He was promoted to the Hercules senior squad in 2008 and played 10 games for them as they narrowly missed promotion to la Liga. Raul had a brief loan spell at Halmstads at the end of the 2010-2011. He has represented Spain at both the U-19 and U-21 levels.

Juan Francisco Moreno Fuertes (Winger /Striker) - Juanfran joined Real Madrid from Villarreal in 2009. He started his youth career at Avance before moving to Getafe in 2005. He was promoted to the Getafe senior squad in 2008. Juanfran made his la Liga debut against Athletico Bilbao on March 23, 2008.He moved to Villarreal B for a year before joining Castilla in 2009. On May 2, 2010, Juanfran made his debut with Real Madrid's main squad, replacing Fernando Gago in a 3-2 home league win against Osasuna.

Denis Cheryshev (Left Winger) - Denis joined the Real Madrid Academy from Burgos Promesasin 2002. Cheryshev started his career in Sporting Gijon as a youth while his father was playing for the first team of the club. He moved to Burgos Promesain until 2002. He was promoted to Castilla in 2009. Denis has dual citizenship in Spain and Russia and has represented Russia at the U-21 level in 2011.

Óscar Plano Pedreño (Striker) - Oscar Plano joined the Real Madrid Academy from Mostoles in 2001. He rose through the youth ranks and joined Real Madrid Castilla in 2011. This is his first season at Castilla. Oscar Plano was the top scorer for Real Madrid C last season.

José Luís Sanmartín Mato (Striker) - Joselu joined Real Madrid from Celta Vigo in 2009. He started his youth career at Celta Vigo in 2002 and was promoted to the senior squad in 2009. He played two games for the senior squad in the second division. He was purchased by Madrid in 2009 and immediately loaned back to Celta for the 2009-2010 season. Joselu was the joint top scorer (with Morata) for Castilla in the 2010-2011 campaign. On May 21, 2011, he made his Real Madrid first-team debut, replacing Karim Benzema for the last 10 minutes of a home fixture against Almeria. He scored almost immediately making it 8-1 to Real Madrid for the night. Joselu has represented Spain at the  U-19 ,U-20 and U-21 levels.

Alvaro Borja Morata Martin (Striker) - Morata joined the Real Madrid Academy from Getafe in 2008. He began his youth career at Atletico Madrid before moving to Getafe in 2007. After successful stints on youth teams Morata was promoted to Castilla in 2010. Morata was the joint top scorer (with Joselu) for Castilla in the 2010-2011 campaign. On Dec. 12,  2010, Morata made his debut for the Real Madrid first team, when he was brought on as a substitute in a 3–1 win at Real Zaragoza.He played in the Spanish Cup six days later. Morata has represented Spain at various youth levels (U-17,18 and 19). He was the top scorer for Spain in the 2011 U-19 Euro Championship helping his country lift the title.

Jesé Rodríguez Ruíz (Striker) - Jese joined the Real Madrid Academy in 2007 from Huracan. He began his youth career at El Pilar FC, moving to Huracan in 2005. Jese was promoted to Castilla in 2010 after succesful stints at the lower levels of the Academy. He was part of the 2011 preseason tour in the U.S. and China and shined in performances against the likes of the LA Galaxy and Guangzhou Everglade. He has been called up by Spain at the U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels. He was part of the Spanish U-19 squad that reached the final of U-19 2010 Euro Championship.
