In Karanka's Words: "Xabi Alonso is ready to play against Getafe"
Jose Mourinho is delegating his media appearances to Aitor Karanka, his assistant coach. He is probably angry with how the Spanish press dealt with the team after the 1-2 loss against FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. Marca and As criticized him greatly and now Mourinho doesn't want to explain any of his decisions to those journalists.
Getafe is a complicated rival, they've beaten Barcelona in their stadium a month ago. Luís García has built a very good team, they defend well and they look for the counter attack.
We haven't just discovered Granero now. He was raised here and he is a very good player and a very good person. He got injured in the preseason and that affected him for the first few months. We have a short roster because we wanted it that way, and every time he steps onto the pitch, he delivers.
Nuri Sahin is still waiting to be one of Real Madrid's key midfielders. The Turk will need to be a little more patient until Mourinho and his staff can trust him.
You get in shape by playing and he is not doing that now. That affects his confidence because he comes from a very important role in Bundesliga. We know he is going to overcome this.
Angel Di María, Ricardo Carvalho, Hamit Altinop and Marcelo were left off the list for the game against Getafe. Di María and Marcelo are injured, while Altintop and Carvalho are out due to technical decisions.
Di María will be out until he is ready.
Finally, when asked about the referees, Karanka had this to say during the press conference.
We already talked after the Copa del Rey game because everyone saw what happened. I am not going to talk about what others do, though Real Madrid has always talked about this matter. I lived through this same situation as a player and everything changes so fast.

Mourinho will not give a single headline this rest of the season, haha.
Hasta el final, vamos Real.

Coentrao and Arbeloa can play.
Not that big of a worry.

Marcelo out, Carvalho Out, Ramos out
That’s three out of our back 4. Coentrao and Arbeloa can play, but that’s only two. That leaves Pepe and most likely Varane. That just doesn’t strike a lot of confidence in me. Don’t get me wrong I like Varane. But man…we’re thin as it is — if one of those guys goes down we’re even worse off. Our bench depth is horrible…

Defense is not screwed we have Pepe, Ramos, Coentaro, Lass, Albiol, Varane.
I liked the comments on Granero but one thing that has become quite obvious to me since Granero has been given a chance to play, we all know how he propels the midfield quite competently, he also has very good tackling and passing ability but one flaw that is flagrant in his play is his poor strikes.
Whether from inside or outside the box his strikes are below average, they are quite weak and lack direction in comparison to the others and they basically hand the ball to the Goalkeeper. He needs to work on this area if he wants to be taken seriously as a first choice midfielder.
