The plausible purchase of Luka Modric has been subjected to much scrutiny over the last month.

Some look at him as an unnecessary luxury, while others have declared him a replacement for Ricardo Kaka whose Madrid tenure is nothing short of a disappointment. While others think of him as competition for the much acclaimed Mesut Ozil.On a personal note however ,having seen only one match of Tottenham which was against Madrid, left me with inadequate data to form a conclusion

Luka Modrics at first sight seemed largely unimpressive mustering a mere 4 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearences in the EPL. granted his comparatively deeper role ,it seemed understandable yet unimpressive all the same.But his key passes stand 2.9 per match which is second only to mesut ozil,and this is depite his deeper position.His ability on the dribble too his impressive completing 1.8 pergame which is more than any midfielder in the Madrid squad last season.Modric musters upto 2.5 interceptions per game which is the 3rd highest in the PL

Although his successfull tackles per game is slightly inferior to Alonso

Style of play

Luka Modric is dynamic both off and on the ball positioning him self where he can best receive the ball,he can either unleash a killer through ball or go on a jinxing run,with his pace causing him to be quite a handful.This would indeed add another dimension to the Madrid attack sice by replicating alonsos distribution while boosting mobility and pace.Modric is adept at playing killer passes through the air and the ground ‘consistently’ something which cant be said of Alonso .And if other options aren’t available he can go on runs and disrupt defences thus making space for his team mates to run into,yet another improvement over Alonso.He furthermore a speed merchant consistently able to outpace his opposite number,thus boosting madrids counter attack

Incorporation

Modric can either be incorporated into the current 4231 in Alonso s place or on a rotation basis,since he has the same distributive ability as Alonso plus some sweet flair,or he can be incorporated into a 433 trivote with Alonso,modric and khedira while sacrificing dimaria.He can otherwise be used as a super sub since his versatility enables him to play in any position in midfield,either attacking or defensive,.
