According to Diario As, FIFA President Sepp Blatter has reached out to Cristiano Ronaldo to apologize and smooth things out between the two. That request has reportedly been rejected by Ronaldo. This, of course, all stems from the President's unacceptable "joke" delivered before students at Oxford where he professed his favoritism for "good boy" Lionel Messi over Ronaldo, not to mention FIFA's Balon d'Or candidacy write-up that once again injects Messi's name in what is supposed to be Ronaldo's space. I have no problem with Ronaldo snubbing Blatter in this case. The President's actions only confirm what most of us suspected to be true already. FIFA is by no means a beacon of integrity, and a renegade Ronaldo that doesn't cozy up to its shadiness is far more preferred, to me at least.
Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly keen on bringing Sergio Ramos to the Etihad. The Daily Mirror's Sunday People says that City would be more than willing to fill in the gap in salary between Ramos expects and what he's being paid. Ramos expecting to be on par salary-wise with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale is the most startling part of this scenario if any of it is to be believed.
Real Madrid's official site has rounded up all 14 Real Madrid players involved in international matches over the weekend. The pressure will be immense for the French side and Karim Benzema (if Deschamps decides to involve him much) to overcome a 2-0 deficit to Ukraine in the second leg. Xabi Alonso looks to be fine after having to be subbed off. In a meaningless match. Against Equatorial Guinea. Yeah. And Sami Khedira has now undergone surgery and begun the long road to recovery.
Today marks the seventh anniversary of Ferenc Puskas's death. A tribute video has been put together by the club, and it's well worth a watch. Black and white football telecasts are just so awesome. And that left foot of Puskas, wow!
