Now that the squad is back from international duties and that roughly one third of the season is complete (time flies), I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some of the stats that the team and its players are putting up. Some of these are pretty basic while some verge on the more advanced side. Since football has been a late adopter of advanced statistics relative to other sports such as baseball and basketball (FIFA didn’t even start keeping track of assists in World Cups until 1994 for goodness' sakes), we can’t really delve in too deep into the numbers but we’ll do our best. The stats were pulled from Squawka, WhoScored, Opta and Transfermarkt.

Just another reminder, many of these databases have varying numbers when it comes to percentages and averages (and no system is perfect) but hopefully you get the gist of how Real Madrid is playing this season. Basically, lots of goals, either in the opponent's net or RM’s. Several of these numbers are fairly basic while others verge on being more calculated and advanced. Hopefully as the years pass the football world will be more embracing and creative in the keeping of statistics. Feel free to share any and all additional stats you found or any critiques you have with the ones above (I'm looking at you, DFZG)!
