Carlo Ancelotti: "Jesé Or Di María Will Replace Cristiano Ronaldo"

Burak Kara

Carlo confirmed that we won't be seeing Cristiano Ronaldo tomorrow against Galatasary but that his injury might not be too severe, while youngsters like Casemiro and Jese could be starters against the Turkish side

  • Carlo was full of praise for Galatasaray, citing that they've played well under scarf connoisseur Roberto Mancini and that they have to be wary of Didier Drogba's immense skill. "Our goal is to be first in group and play as best we can. There are two more games to do that and we want to win both. We're not looking at the numbers and we have to give it our all in both matches. Tomorrow will be intense because their qualification is on the line."
  • Cristiano Ronaldo is out for this game. "He can't play tomorrow because he's had a small problem. He'll start to work on the pitch alone tomorrow and we'll see if he can be ready for Saturday. It's a strain, but the player is confident he can play on Saturday." In his place, Carlo dropped Jese and Angel Di Maria's name so expect to see one of those two speedsters.
  • Regarding what kind of system we'll see, Carlo had this to say: "I like that our team proves they can play with any system. It's good for us to know that we can. We have a lot of skill on the team. It's difficult to play the 4-3-3 without Khedira but we can do it because either Casemiro or Di María can play in this position." He also stated that Xabi Alonso is coming off of a minor injury and that Casemiro could likely get the starting nod. Fellow midfielder Luka Modric also won't be playing due to suspension.
  • Raphael Varane is not going under the surgical knife but he will need to rest his knee. "We had a meeting with the doctors and the player yesterday and we decided that he needed a period of recovery and rest for his knee. He can't play for 10 to 12 days and we hope his knee doesn't swell up during this period. He won't have to undergo surgery, he just needs to rest and that's it."

  • On Isco: "He played well in Almería. It was a comfortable position for him behind the forward and he might play tomorrow."
  • On Bale: "I don't think his position will change much. I prefer that he plays on the right so that he can shoot and centre the ball. On the wings I prefer to play with players who can switch up their feet."
  • Marcelo, Real's court jester, was also in the presser and had nothing but praise for Cristiano Ronaldo, and got visibly annoyed when a journalist insinuated that Marcelo thought someone else deserved the Ballon d'Or last season. "You're wrong. You're wrong and this is all a big fuss over nothing  and that's not what happened and now I've told you that I think the Ballon d'Or should go to Cristiano." He also dropped some expletives but ended it with a smile. What a character.
