Only a few weeks back rumors were circulating that Ángel di María would depart for Monaco in the winter transfer window after losing his starting spot to Gareth Bale. According to today's MARCA, Di María has now informed Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti that he will remain with the club for the rest of the season and make the most of his opportunities on the pitch.
Ángel di María knows he can't permanently unseat Gareth Bale after the club signed the Welshman for a world record transfer fee. While the Argentine started the season in great form, he was quickly relegated to the bench upon Bale's arrival even though the former Spurs man lacked match fitness. In di María's mind, he'd done nothing wrong to warrant losing his spot, though he acknowledges that Madrid didn't fork out €91 million for Bale to warm the bench.
Carlo Ancelotti values di María and considers him an integral player that can play in various positions. The former Benfica man typically occupies the right wing but can also play in varied roles throughout the midfield. At this point in time, he remains the only Real Madrid player to have scored in the league, the Champions league and the Copa del Rey this season.
What does the future hold for Ángel di María? MARCA claims the club will sell him following the World Cup in the hopes that the tournament will boost the player's value should clubs like PSG, Monaco or Manchester United come calling. With the arrival of Gareth Bale and the progression of Jesé, it's understandable for the Rosario-native to seek more playing time at a new club this summer.
