Viva Ronaldo! The Spanish league's organizing body, the Liga de Fútbol Professional, awarded Real Madrid's fantastic winger with the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2012/2013 season. In addition to receiving that most-deserved honor, Spanish sports daily MARCA presented CR7 with the Alfredo Di Stéfano Trophy for a second straight year. The award also recognizes La Liga's top player from the previous season.
The award's namesake, Alfredo Di Stéfano, attended the ceremony with President Florentino Pérez and praised Cristiano Ronaldo in light of his out-of-this-world performances:
"He deserves it. He is a born goal-scorer. He plays very well and to win this prize you have to be good at everything. He is doing very well and everyone at Madrid wants him to carry on like that."
Cristiano was gracious and appreciative of Di Stéfano's presence, recognizing that the Madrid legend is dealing with health issues and therefore made a special effort to present Cristiano with the award. Still, Ronaldo was not the only Vikingo to indulge in personal accolades yesterday.
The LFP also garnished Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Asier Illaramendi with individual awards. Casillas earned the "BBVA Fair Play Award," Ramos received the "Best Defender" honor, and Illara received both "Best Midfielder" and "Rising Star" titles. Congrats, Blancos!
