Marcelo Racially Abused by Atlético Fans After the Game

Manuel Queimadelos Alonso

The Brazilian player had to listen to racist chants when he was warming down after the game ended.

As some British papers reported earlier this Thursday, Real Madrid defender Marcelo was racially abused by the Frente Atlético fans when he was warming down after the game. These Atlético ultras are also known for making fun of Antonio Puerta's death some years ago.

'Marca' also reported a video that proves these racist chants against Marcelo. The fans are singing "Eres un mono, Marcelo eres un mono", which can be translated to "You're a monkey, Marcel you are a monkey."

The Spanish Football Federation might still be worried about Cristiano Ronaldo's three-game ban after his gesture, but they should also punish Atlético Madrid for this. In other countries like England, racial issues like this chant are strongly punished both for the fans and for the clubs. We will have to wait and see the consequences of this disgusting attitude by the Frente Atlético.
