Real Madrid attacking midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th, and 101st goals with los blancos during Madrid's 0-2 win Wednesday at the Stade Gerland against Olympique Lyon in the UEFA Champions League. Ronaldo dominated the proceedings throughout the match, grabbing various scoring opportunities; his two goals, however, came from set play opportunities--the first from a brilliantly-executed free kick, and the second off a penalty.
Unsurprisingly, the post-match headlines focused on Cristiano Ronaldo's impressive accomplishment, though many of them also touched on Real Madrid's unspectacular record in Lyon:
"Real Madrid Governs Gerland" Marca.com
Marca's recap analyzes Madrid's victory in the context of their terrible record against Lyon at the Gerland. They reference Cristiano's achievement, but put more effort into it in later articles. Key phrase: "Madrid governed in Lyon with an authoritarian style" (what does that mean?)
Goodbye Curse! - AS.com
As.com also made some hay out of Real Madrid's bad run of form at the Gerland in their recap. In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, they pointed heaped praise on Mesut Özil, who "recovered his level" and Lassana Diarra, who played a commendable game at RB.
The "100 Club" bows to CR7: "He will go as far as he wants" - MARCA.com
Marca interviewed some of the other people who scored 100 goals with a Madrid shirt; and Santillana, Amancio, and Pirri were all amazed by the young Portuguese attacker's football. Keep it up.

They also made this graphic that charts all Cristiano's goals. It's actually pretty cool, for a Marca piece.

Apparently, CR7's numbers are "destroying" every other Real Madrid striker--including Raúl, Di Stéfano, Hugo, Puskas and company. Hard top believe.
Cristiano Ronaldo scores, and assists more than ever - AS.com
According to AS, since the 2004/05 season (his second with United) until today, he has gone from not scoring or assisting to netting 14 goals and giving 8 assists. Transcendental numbers, really.

A good interview here where CR7 goes into some detail about his scoring practices, and reflects on his 100th (and 101st) goals. Check it out!
