Real Madrid Vs. Sporting Gijon: Post Match Reaction

The sun was still shining yesterday when Real Madrid visited the stadium of their bogey team Sporting Gijon. As was expected, the team that had dealt Real a shock loss last year didn't make it easy for the Whites, but Los Merengues returned to the capitol with a hard-earned 3-0 victory in their pocket, along with an important three points and the continuation of their winning streak (now spanning 14 incredible matches).

After the match, the coach and players talked to the press and here's some of what they said. As always, if you wish to read the full interviews and/or see more news, you can go to Real Madrid's official website here.

Coach Mourinho was treading lightly (or at least lighter than usual) during the post-match press conference and used many many compliments in his statement:

"I don't believe anyone will be offended if I say we have different objectives and different human material... We knew it would be difficult to play here tonight and Sporting used their weapons. They used positive aggressiveness and had a tight defense [...] The team is winning. We play well and win in different ways: with quality, with team spirit, with counterattacks... Football is football and championships like this one are complicates. You can drop points at every stadium. We took three more tonight, so this is a good victory."

-Jose Mourinho

Very well said by the "Special One" and now we move on to what a few of the players thought of the match after the jump.

" We knew the game would be difficult. The important thing is we're winning our games [...] I'm having a good run and doing well. We're calm and must focus on the Champions League before the Classico."

-Angel Di Maria

"...We worked hard, played a serious fame and fought for every ball. This was an important victory at a difficult venue [...] Barcelona have worked very hard and so have we. We've now earned another victory. We must respect our match with Ajax before thinking about Barcelona."

-Pepe

"It's difficult to win here if Sporting play like us. Our run is actually rather incredible in both La Liga and the Champions League. We must keep this up and win our next game despite having the advantage of already being in the UCL Last 16. We must be in the best possible shape in Amsterdam and try to sustain no injuries that game."

-Iker Casillas

You can see the Whites in action again this Wednesday in the Champions League against Ajax. Keep in mind that Madrid have already secured their spot in the Last 16 as well as being assured first place in their group. And we all know what comes after that match.
