Real Madrid skipper and net minder Iker Casillas celebrated 12 years with the first team today, when he made his debut between the pipes against Atletico Bilbao. He's put together quite the resume since then, including being the skipper for the Spanish National Team. When he starts tomorrow night against Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League clash of the new season, it will be his 577th appearance for los blancos.
"That's the greatest football memory I have. I went from playing in the second division B playoffs with Real Madrid C to being at San Mames," the 30-year-old told the club's official website.
"You can imagine how different it was: from three journalists covering the match, there were now 50. From playing in front of a crowd 500 strong to playing in front of 50,000. It was a brutal change."
He's made 124 appearances for his country, where he's become both a European and world champion. This is a great milestone for the skipper and I hope there are a few more trophies in his career. I honestly couldn't imagine anyone else in net for Madrid.
Feel free to leave your favorite Iker memory in the comments.
