Real Madrid Castilla Roundup: Season's Promising Start Continues

Despite controlling large portions of their third match this past Sunday, Real Madrid Castilla tied Albacete by a 1-1 score, but the result was promising nonetheless.

Albacete are a strong team recently relegated from the Segunda Division. In past seasons, this would have been the type of match in which Castilla would lay an egg and lose at home, but this time they put on a great performance and were unlucky to draw even against a relatively strong opponent.

Juanfran, who scored in the third minute, was the goal scorer for Castilla. According to the official team website, the team controlled possession for much of the match and deserved more goals, but they conceded a penalty in the 56th minute, which was converted by Albacete's Calle.

The player of the game appeared to be the goal scorer Juanfran, who was rumored to move to la Liga's Espanyol this off-season, but never completed the move. He was "very concentrated throughout the entire match," according to the team's website. Other Castilla stars--Tomas Mejias (GK), Dani Carvajal (RB), Alex (CM), Jese (LW) and strikers Morata and Joselu--all formed part of the team's starting 11 players. With one of its strongest lineups in years, Castilla has gotten off to a strong start as they look to get promoted to the Segunda Division.

Real Madrid Castilla are currently in a tie for first in the 20-team Group A of the Segunda Division B with seven points from three games. On goal differential, they sit in third place overall. The top four teams advance to the promotion playoffs, and the overall top regular season team has a much easier path in the playoffs. Castilla returns to action this Sunday as they visit Coruxo, who are in 15th place with two points from three matches.
