Real Madrid Vs. Levante: Post Match Reactions

He definitely has reason to celebrate.
He definitely has reason to celebrate.

Last night was a match full of great goals and overall excitement. Not only did Madrid leave with a convincing 4-2 victory and three points, but those three points will extend the gap over Barcelona on the Spanish league table to a whopping ten points. If los blancos weren't favored to win before, they certainly are now.

In his comments to the press, however, Coach Jose Mourinho isn't getting overly optimistic about result of the the match.

There are many points still at stake and many games yet to be played. Every match is difficult and increasingly so because there is so much at stake for everyone now [...] There are 39 points left, which translate into 13 victories, and that's still a lot. Ten points are just that, but they do give you some room for error [...]We have to continue winning games because championships are won only when the math says so.

The "Special One" also addressed the recent press frenzy that has resulted from rumors of his exit and Real Madrid's almost insurmountable lead on the top of the league table:

I don't want to comment on what the press says because its interests are different from ours. I tell my players that those who say the championship is over are the same who put pressure on us when we don't win. This isn't different for other teams. We must remain calm and avoid talking about other sides.

Cristiano Ronaldo was also on hand to give his thoughts. The striker, who netted a hat-trick and scored a brilliant goal in the second half, warned against getting over-excited:

We knew the match would be difficult and we didn't have a good start. We changed after the first goal. We're fine and must keep this up till the end of the season, but there are still many games left. Goals happen thanks to the effort of the entire team. We're playing well and I'm having a good run that I want to keep up. I was extremely happy after scoring one goal and I wanted to celebrate it with the manager and his staff because we are all doing a great job.

Benzema, Higuain, and Alonso also commented on the match. Real Madrid takes the pitch on Saturday in the league against Racing Santander in the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was a great game. We have a large cushion, but the championship is far from over. We must fight and work hard because the league isn't over yet. We're all very happy about the match. I'm happy with my goal, but winning was what really mattered.

-Karim Benzema (who also scored a great goal) (x)

Ten points constitute a considerable cushion. We're doing better and must remain calm. We are Real Madrid and we'll try for this league not to slip through our fingers. It's up to us not to lower the pace and keep this intensity up. What matters is we're leaders and that the league is in our hands.

-Gonzalo Higuain (x)

It was very important to draw the match just before half-time. We're happy but we can also improve on aspects of our game. We have to avoid conceding early goals. Levante are a very competitive side and every opponent of ours will have much at stake until season's end. We shouldn't think about points, but rather on winning every game. Cristiano guaranteed our victory with his three goals. Our three strikers are in top form. It's important for them to feel at ease so that we all connect and make the team work.

-Xabi Alonso (x)
