La Liga Judgment Day Open Thread: 100 Points, Salvation Hang In The Balance

It's Judgment Day in la Liga, as teams battle to see whether they will survive the Skynet-style nuclear holocaust of relegation, or whether they will fall during the battle. Rayo Vallecano (has it come to this?), Sporting, Zaragoza, Granada, and Villarreal are all locked within three points of the drop zone; currently, Zaragoza and Sporting are descending, though losses by Rayo, and Villarreal could signal a shift. It's a fascinating, and disturbing tableau of depression and ecstasy in the Liga on this beautiful day in May.

Oh, and Real Madrid might set the Liga record for points in a season today. If they beat Mallorca in the Bernabéu, they will have recorded and absolutely insane 100 points on the year--a mark that will be very hard to ever beat.

And, for good measure, Mallorca, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Osasuna and Levante are all locked in a fight to see who will make it into the Champions League and the Europa League next season. Currently, Atleti and Mallorca are in fifth and sixth (the two Europa League spots), while Valencia and Málaga are in the Champions League. A Malaga loss, coupled with an Atleti win would let Madrid's second team into the Champions League. Athletic Bilbao need a miracle to get in, though it is still possible--especially because Mallorca are set to play Real Madrid.

Hala Madrid!

(And, for what it's worth, I went with that picture because I didn't think I'd find a way to work it in otherwise. I just think it's hilarious. But there's no other reason. Just wanted you all to see it--it has nothing to do with the post)
