Real Madrid's 2012-2013 Preseason: Upcoming Friendlies

José Mourinho has returned to Spain's capital to start the 2012-2013 practices this upcoming Monday. The Portuguese coach will be able to work with those players that were not part of the UEFA Euro 2012, so he will need to fill some voids with canteranos. Higuaín, Lass Diarra, Di María, Nuri Sahin, Carvalho, Granero, Adán, Fernando Gago, Raphael Varane, Kaká and José Callejón must step on Valdebebas' turf.

Some of those players are still negotiating their transfer out of the club, like Fernando Gago, Ricardo Carvalho, Lass Diarra and Kaká. The Brazilian left back Marcelo will play in London's Olympic Games, so he'll miss a big part of the preseason.

After the jump, get ready for a break-down of Real Madrid's upcoming friendlies.

On July 24, the team will visit the Estadio Carlos Tartiere and play against Real Oviedo, one of the teams on the Spanish First Division in the late 90s. The Asturian team is now on the Segunda División B. Real Madrid Castilla celebrated their promotion to Segunda in this very stadium, and given that some key players of the first team will still be missing, some of these canteranos will have another chance to play some minutes.

Two days after that game, Karim Benzema will meet his teammates and start his preseason workout. It's unknown whether Mourinho will give him some minutes against Benfica on July 27. Two of the most historical teams in Europe will meet in the Eusebio Trophy.

The team's core players will go back to practice just after that game. Mourinho will be able to welcome back Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil, Cristiano Ronaldo, Fábio Coentrao and Pepe, and on July 30 the team will be complete just after the Spanish players that participated in the Euro head back to practice.

That same day, the team will travel to the United States. José Mourinho wants six Castilla players with the team, but the names have yet to be announced.

On August 2, Real Madrid will play against a familiar foe in California. David Beckham's LA Galaxy will be trying to beat José Mourinho's team in the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Three days after (August 5), the team will travel to Las Vegas and play against Santos Laguna. Italian team Juventus was expected to play against Real Madrid at this venue, but the Mexican team will be there instead.

The biggest game of Real Madrid's preseason will come on August 8. AC Milan and Real Madrid, the two European clubs with more wins in the continental competition, will go head to head in the big Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva will not play, but some sources believe Kaká could play this game against Mourinho rather than with his coach, given Milan's Adriano Galliani's interest in signing him.

The last game of this preseason stage will be in the Lincoln Financial Center of Philadelphia against Celtic Glasgow on August 11. The Scottish champions will also be the last team to face Real Madrid before José Mourinho's men travel back to Madrid to start their defense of the Liga BBVA title against Valencia on August 18.

The Spanish SuperCup against Barcelona will be played after the Liga starts, which is very unusual in other European leagues.
