After a warm, busy morning in Spain's capital, new Real Madrid player Luka Modric finally introduced himself to the media present at the Santiago Bernabéu press room, where he signed his five-year contract and revealed that he will train with the rest of the team this afternoon (18:00 CET).
I'm ready for everything. I came here to play football and I know it will be hard to earn my spot, but I think I have the quality needed to play for this team. My goal is to earn a place in the team and I need to work hard for that. But I'm ready for that. I want to win titles with Real Madrid.
It's hard to say how I feel, I have to be honest and I've missed games. Hopefully I will only need a couple of games to be fit. I would like to play my first game for the team against Barcelona, but my coach will have to decide about that.
Modric is obviously looking forward to playing with his new teammates:
Ronaldo, Higuaín, Di María, Alonso, I look forward to play with them, and I'm sure they will help me as well. I feel that my best is at the center midfield. But it all depends on my coach.
The Croatian player showed no anger whatsoever to his former club despite some reports stating that Owner Daniel Levy wasn't keeping his promise:
I'm grateful for Tottenham. I'd like to thank all the people that made my life easier there. I've only got kind words for them.
He concluded this press conference by saying he's proud to join Real Madrid:
It's taken too long but at the end I'm here in the best and biggest club on the world. I cannot wait to start.
Modric will give a longer interview to RealMadridTV before the training session. Managing Madrid will also wrap up the official interview on the site.
