Welcome to Managing Madrid Daily. In this section, the staff will briefly give its opinion on the latest Real Madrid news.
It's difficult to say what's wrong with the reigning Liga BBVA champions. It all started to seem like physical problems due to a poor preseason after the team drew against Valencia. But then, Getafe overcame a 0-1 deficit to finally beat Mourinho's team 2-1. What started as a simple fitness problem then became a lack of focus and attitude for the game. The Supercopa title calmed things down, but Real Madrid has not played a good game since, even though they managed to beat Granada 3-0.
Winning the last Liga title against Pep Guardiola's Barcelona could have relaxed the players too much. That's why some of the regular starters could benefit from being on the bench in the next Champions League game against Manchester City. If some of them aren't focused enough on La Liga and all they want is the European title, it's better for them to know that the domestic league is just as important.
Starting Coentrao, Essien, Modric, Albiol, Benzema, Kaká or Callejón could be a good thing. They are capable of beating Manchester City and that would fire up some of the regular starters who might think their spot is totally safe.
