FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Sevilla. These are the type of fixtures where you need your best players available. Ronaldo to lead the attack, Ramos to command the defense and Casillas to be our last man. Unfortunately Real Madrid will have to do without Casillas for up to ten weeks due to an injury that he picked up against Valencia at the Mestalla.
These matches could very well prove to be a decisive time for the team as it could make or break Madrid's chances of winning any silverware. The game against United is a must win, with the Champions League being the only major trophy that we are still in the running for. The League trophy at this point in time is a tall order even for Madrid, but hopefully the team can continue to achieve some good results in the absence of our first choice goalkeeper.
Without the pressure of having to choose Casillas, Mourinho can finally allow Antonio Adan the chance to display his potential and stake his claim as Real Madrid's number one. Adan started the match against Getafe and did well to keep a clean sheet. Although the following fixtures are likely to provide Adan with his best opportunity to show everybody just what he can do. He will have to come face to face with some of the best attacking players in the form of Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney. These players are likely to force any goalkeeper into making more than just a simple save.
Real Madrid has not wasted any time and has quickly acquired another goalkeeper to provide back-up for Adán until the end of the season. Diego López, the newly acquired goalkeeper was an understudy to Casillas not so long ago and had to leave the capital club to find first team action in Villarreal. During his spell at Villareal, López proved to be a key member of the squad helping the team to a string of good performances.
Jose Mourinho will most likely give Adán the opportunity to play against Barcelona in Wednesday's cup fixture. If he does well he could find himself playing against Barça in the league and United in the Champions league. Do badly and he could be back on the bench, only this time deputizing for Diego López.
