Iker Casillas Will Leave Next June If He Does Not Get More Minutes

One of Iker Casillas' favorite insiders, Carmen Colino, reports this story in today's Diario As. Apparently, Iker Casillas' particular war with the bench didn't end when Jose Mourinho left the club.

Again, when it all appeared to be quiet and peaceful for Real Madrid, Spanish paper 'Diario Asreports that Real Madrid's captain Iker Casillas will leave the club in June if he does not play more this second half of the season. According to the report, Casillas wants to play more than 20 games a season.

Apparently, Manchester City and Arsenal FC would be interested in signing the Spanish goalkeeper.

One way or another, it's hard to understand this report. Carmen Colino is a great friend of Iker Casillas' so she's reliable and her reports about the goalkeeper should be trusted. Why doesn't Casillas wait until June? Why does he need to create all those rumors about his departure? Is he trying to put pressure on Carlo Ancelotti to bench Diego López? Shouldn't he try to gain his spot back on the training field? And, if a decision was already made by the start of the season, shouldn't Iker Casillas respect a fellow madridista and canterano and wait for things to develop?

If Casillas really wants to leave next June, he should keep things private until that moment arrives. Right now, in the middle of a Christmas break, this report does nothing but harm to Real Madrid and the coaching staff, adding even more pressure to Diego López, whose only fault is to perform better than expected during the last year.
