Ramos completed yet another woeful game, playing arrogantly and not defending with the intensity needed against Hélder Postiga. He's had a terrible month, and with Varane's bloom, Real Madrid's second captain could use some time on the bench to figure out what he's been doing bad lately.
Furthermore, Real Madrid's strikers couldn't score a single goal, relying to much on Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star managed to score one, but that wasn't enough for his team to win.
Luckily enough for Real Madrid, Marcelo seems to be back in shape. He played fairly well and could be ready to play a big game against Galatasaray. His offensive skills is something the team has been missing as well, so it could be interesting to see what he can do against the Turkish club.
Mourinho decided to start the game with Kaká, Callejón, Essien and Modric replacing Özil, Di María, Khedira and Alonso. That lineup didn't work at all, so the Portuguese coach decided to substitute Kaká, Callejón and Arbeloa at the same time early in the second half.
Kaká keeps finding a way to earn some good minutes in the club, even though he hardly ever lives up to his fans' expectations. The Brazilian playmaker disappointed with Brazil's National Team and he did the exact same thing at La Romareda.
Modric didn't play well neither, so Real Madrid's midfield against Galatasaray will likely be Alonso and Khedira's to take. Benzema and Xabi Alonso never joined the game, so they will be fully rested for Wednesday's match. Benzema and Higuaín need to wake up sooner rather than later if Real Madrid wants to have a shot at the Champions League. It's impossible to win the European title without a striker.
As the fans have been discussing throughout the whole Liga season, Real Madrid didn't give their all to win. It must be hard to keep yourself fired up and wanting to play at Zaragoza when you're more than 10 points behind Barcelona.
Diego López completed another good game, saving a couple of good chances from Postiga. It will be hard to bench him if he keeps playing like this, but it would be good to have a better defensive performance out of the center backs in order for López to have easier nights. Pepe could also improve his game some, as he's been sloppy since he came back from his ankle injury.
One thing is certain: Raphäel Varane needs to be a starter in this Real Madrid team if Ramos and Pepe keep playing like this.
