The rumors were true and the Spanish centerback will be plying his trade in Italy next season.

Sources close to Managing Madrid confirm that the rumors of Raúl Albiol leaving Real Madrid to join Napoli are true. Albiol will be departing for the Naples club on a four-year contract. The clubs have yet to officially announce this deal.

It is also confirmed that Albiol's wages will be lower at Napoli than they were in Madrid. Albiol would likely have been the fourth choice centerback if he were to stay in Madrid behind the likes of Raphaël Varane, Sergio Ramos and Pepe. Guaranteed minutes at Napoli will bolster the player's opportunity to be a part of next summer's Spanish World Cup squad in Brazil. Albiol had been with Real Madrid since the 2009/10 campaign.

As we noted earlier here at Managing Madrid, there is further interest from Napoli in dealing with Real Madrid for the likes of Gonzalo Higuaín. The want-away striker could finally find a landing spot as a replacement to Edinson Cavani, who officially completed his move to Paris Saint-Germain today.
