Real Madrid's captain Iker Casillas is disappointed after Ancelotti decided to start Diego López this past Sunday. He never got involved in the pre-game routine of the second goalkeeper. Usually, the reserve goalkeeper helps the starting one in his warm-up routine, but this time it was Tomás Mejías the one in charge of doing that. Furthermore, the cameras caught Casillas ironically saying that he will at least have the chance to play the Bernabéu Trophy against Raúl's team.
It's true that nobody expected Casillas to start the Liga BBVA season on the bench, even though Diego López earned his chance during the preseason. Casillas played well too, but Diego López played more minutes and never had to travel to Ecuador with the Spanish National Team.
Casillas' behaviour during López's pre-match routine was surprising, and now Punto Pelota and Tiki-Taka reported that FC Barcelona would be willing to land Casillas. It should be hard to convince the goalkeeper to join Real's bitter rivals, but another journalist said that Casillas wants to leave Real Madrid. Real's captain would be tired of this situation and would be willing to join either Manchester City or Manchester United after both clubs showed interest.
Casillas was slightly booed when his name was announced on the speakers in the game against Betis. On the other hand, Diego López had the support of the whole stadium and even some of the fans sang for him.
If Casillas wants to stop this turmoil about his potential departure, he should go public and state that he will compete for the starting spot even harder now. Otherwise, these rumors about Real Madrid's captain leaving the club could be somewhat right after all.
