Fàbio Coentrao Diagnosed With Minor Left Thigh Injury

The Portuguese player had to be substituted in Portugal's last match. He underwent an exploration to get further knowledge on this injury. He will likely miss the game against Villarreal.

Real Madrid will play against Villarreal without a pure left back. The Spanish club released a statement to confirm Coentrao's thigh injury. It is nothing serious, but the Portuguese defender should be out for a couple of games.

With Marcelo also sidelined due to a harmstring injury, Álvaro Arbeloa will likely be the team's left back. That means that Daniel Carvajal will have a chance to start in his natural right back position after a not very positive debut against Real Betis in Madrid's first game of the season.

Arbeloa has had some experience in that position, but it would certainly be better for the club to have its two pure left backs available. That will likely happen in a couple of weeks, but Fàbio Coentrao should be ready sooner than Marcelo, who is expected to miss up to three weeks of action.
