Ancelotti: "Varane will rest tomorrow"

Ancelotti confirms that Pepe will be back to the team's starting XI, leaving Varane on the bench.

Some fans relate Real Madrid's defensive struggles to Di María's absence, but Ancelotti is still satisfied with James' defensive work.

James is not Di María, they don't have the same qualities, but I'm very happy with how he's working so far.

Isco has succeeded recently. He probably deserves to start, but one way or another he will not start against Bilbao.

All the players have recovered well, the team is improving physically and we'll keep playing with the 4-3-3. About Isco, I trust him the just the same way I trusted him before Wednesday's match. Tomorrow he will start on the bench because some players who were reserves against Ludogorets will start tomorrow.

Benzema was the main reason behind Real's 1-2 win against Ludogorets, and Ancelotti is happy.

It's good for him that he came into the game in good form, he scored, and he's helping the team as he always is.

When asked about Athletic's strengths, Ancelotti went straight to the point.

Athletic always fight with character and quality. The season has not started well for them after knocking Napoli out, but we need to be careful with them. This could be the best game for them to bounce back from their last struggles.

Pepe is back, and that means that Varane will be back on the bench tomorrow, although he's played very well recently.

Varane will rest tomorrow. That doesn't mean he's not a starter for us, we have three center backs who are very good players.
