Real Madrid vs AC Milan, Dubai Challenge Cup: Player Ratings

An unimportant friendly match for Real Madrid.

Not so friendly.
Not so friendly.

Keylor Navas: 4 - Was left all at sea for the first goal but his positioning could have been a little better and he allowed himself to be tricked by the fake shot and then the ball ended up going underneath him.

Álvaro Arbeloa: 2 - Arby left Stephan El Sharaawy in far too much space fro Milan's second goal and generally contributed next to nothing.

Raphael Varane: 3 - Raphael Varane also played very poorly today and left Menez unmarked too often. He had some heavy touches and should have passed the ball a bit quicker too.

Nacho Fernández: 1 - Nacho's terrible back pass gave Milan their first goal on a platter. He was fouled late in the game for a Madrid penalty but otherwise contributed very little.

Fabio Coentrao: 3 - The Portugese player put in a few tackles here and there but never looked threatening going forward.

Asier Illarramendi: 2 - Asier was non-existent in the first half. He wasn't able of coping with Milan's physicality and intensity in central midfield and therefore couldn't use his distributing role to full effect.

Sami Khedira: 5 - Khedira actually looked quite sharp today and made some good dribbles and passes in dangerous positions high up the pitch. This is good as we may well need to use him in the upcoming months.

Isco Alarcón: 2 - Other than one gorgeous through ball in the second half, Isco actually did very little of note today and looked disinterested compared to his recent energetic performances.

Jesé Rodríguez: 4 - Jesé looked a little rusty like most of the players but he was able to burst through the midfield at one point to provide a good assist to Ronaldo. He also hit the post. Otherwise, he turned the ball over too often.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6 - He spotted Diego López's bad positioning and curled a neat shot in at the near post to demonstrate his clinical finishing ability but even he wasn't up to the usual standards.

Javier Hernández: 4 - Chicharito looked lively today and had some nice dribbles but was unable to affect the match in terms of the scoreline as he was covered well by the Milan defenders.

Subs

Casillas: 5 - Came in for Navas and also managed to concede a couple of goals. Made some decent saves though when Madrid could have conceded even more.

Carvajal: 2 - I'm not sure what it is about friendlies and Carvajal but they seem to infuriate him. Did very little to influence the game offensively as we've come to expect of him and defensively was mediocre at best.

Pepe: 2 - Pepe showe dsigns of rust as his close control with the ball was poor and he was inexplicably out of position at times including for Pazzini's headed goal.

Diego Llorente: 3 - Llorente did nothing of particular note. Defensively, he was troubled often by the Milan players. It was more valuable minutes playing for him with Real Madrid.

Toni Kroos: 1 - I'm not really sure why Toni came on in the second half to be honest. Because his performance showed he couldn't care less; ducking out of tackles to avoid injury is what I remember from his game.

James Rodríguez: 3 - James was trying to influence proceedings with a few shots at goal but  was unsuccessful in all of his attempts. He became too predictable in his play and could have passed instead at times.

Gareth Bale: 3 - The Welshman came on and looked quite lively by registering a couple shots from outside the area but ultimately didn't do enough to make himself available to his team mates when in possession.

Karim Benzema: 4 - Big Benz stepped up to smash the late penalty into the top corner of the net but aside from that had very little to say for himself.

Marcos Llorente: 2 - The youngster came for Isco in the midfield but was unable to exert his style on to the game.

Raúl de Tomás: 1 - Perhaps I wasn't paying close enough attention to the game but I don't recall de Tomás doing much, if at all. I suppose he ran hard up front in the limited minutes he had.

*Writer's note* - Please take these ratings and comments with a pinch of salt as the Real Madrid players clearly didn't give much care about winning the game and had it been a normal, competitive fixture they would have performed much better.
