Carlo Ancelotti: "Illarramendi Will Start In Modric's Place"

Carletto spoke to the press the day before receiving Elche at the Santiago Bernabéu.

First of all, Ancelotti will need to make some replacements for Saturday's match against Elche. Sergio Ramos is one yellow card away from being suspended, meaning that he could miss the game against Atlético Madrid at the Calderón, so he will be rested. And so will Luka Modric, suspended after seeing his fifth Liga BBVA yellow card.

Yes, we're going to make a rotation in defense. Varane will start in Ramos' place. And about the midfield, I still need to see whether Cristiano Ronaldo is allowed to play or not, but Illarramendi will replace Luka Modric.

As you can see, Cristiano Ronaldo's suspension could be cleared. The Spanish Football Federation will make a decision about this issue on Saturday morning, but Ancelotti thinks the Portuguese attacker will be able to play.

I think he will be cleared to play because if he misses three games for what he did in San Mamés it would be unbelievable. He's on the list and I think that he will be able to play. It took a bit too long but we understand bureaucracy.

Ancelotti has been starting the same XI players for quite a while. It's good that he has found his best team, but some might worry about the team getting tired.

No, I'm not worried about that. I'm not worried about the future from a physical-standpoint.

Real Madrid would be interested in signing Thibaut Courtois, according to Diario As. But Ancelotti didn't want to speak about the Belgian that much.

We have two great goalkeepers. Really brave. We don't need another one. He's obviously a great goalkeeper but we do not need another one.

When asked about Asier Illarramendi, Ancelotti left some interesting thoughts.

I think he has improved a lot since we signed him. I first thought he could only play in Alonso's position, but he has gained some confidence and he has proved that he could play besides him. All credit goes for him.

And finally, about Elche FC, Ancelotti said:

There are no easy games. We will think about Schalke right after the Elche game, but not before.
