Marcelo Injures Hamstring, Could Be Out for the Season

Real Madrid's left back curse continues. Marcelo has injured his left hamstring and could be done for the season

Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno

Devastating news for Real Madrid. Sami Khedira tore his ACL in November, shortly after Alvaro Arbeloa's injury was reported. Then Jesé said good-bye to the season with another ACL tear and now Brazilian left back Marcelo has injured his left hamstring and will definitely be out for some time, possibly the rest of the season.  It is very hard to predict, but Marcelo will surely miss the next three or four weeks.

This is the official report released by the club:

After the tests run on Marcelo, he's been diagnosed with a first-grade tear on his left hamstring. He's waiting on a diagnosis.

Fàbio Coentrao will be Real's left back for the next several games, though he's injury-prone himself. Carlo Ancelotti and the whole Real Madrid squad are running out of luck and this last injury will seriously harm Real's chances of winning titles, not to mention the effect on the team's depth.

Further news on Marcelo's status should be announced soon by Carlo Ancelotti, who will speak to the press today (12:30 CET). Stay tuned to Managing Madrid to get the latest.
