Even though not many expected Vicente del Bosque to call Arbeloa, Isco or Diego López up for national duty, it's still mind-blowing to see Pepe Reina, Santi Cazorla or Juan Mata on the list before Diego López and Isco. Arbeloa has recently recovered from a serious injury and already missed Spain's last call, so that's not a surprise either. Only Casillas, Carvajal, Ramos and Alonso are on the list of 30 men. Del Bosque will need to reject seven of those 30 players, so don't get your hopes too high on Carvajal's chances.
Here's the list:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Nápoles) and David de Gea (Manchester United).
Defenders: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Gerard Piqué (Barcelona), Javi Martínez (Bayern), Raúl Albiol (Nápoles), Jordi Alba (Barcelona), Alberto Moreno (Sevilla), César Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Juanfran (Atlético de Madrid) and Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid).
Midfielders: Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Xavi Hernández (Barcelona), Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona), Cesc Fábregas (Barcelona), David Silva (Manchester City), Santi Cazorla (Arsenal), Thiago Alcántara (Bayern), Koke (Atlético de Madrid), Jesús Navas (Manchester City), Juan Mata (Manchester United) and Ander Iturraspe (Athletic Club).
Strikers: Diego Costa (Atlético de Madrid), Fernando Llorente (Juventus), Pedro (Barcelona), Álvaro Negredo (Manchester City), Fernando Torres (Chelsea) and David Villa (Atlético de Madrid).
Remember that players like Callejón -19 goals- have also missed the call while Mata and Cazorla, whose performances have not been brilliant, will have a chance to be in Brazil. Not only Isco is missing.
