It's not a surprise, but Scolari announced Marcelo's name when he disclosed his list of 23 men to play for Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He will likely start at left back too, since Scolari's other left back is PSG's Maxwell. Felipão excluded Atlético's Joâo Miranda and Filipe Luis from his list in what was a controversial decision. Maxwell clearly isn't better than Filipe Luis, and probably Dante isn't any better than Miranda either.
Here's Scolari's list.
Goalkeepers: Jefferson, Julio César y Victor.
Defenders: Dante, David Luiz, Henrique, Thiago Silva, Daniel Alves, Maicon, Marcelo y Maxwell.
Midfielders: Fernandinho, Hernanes, Luiz Gustavo, Oscar, Paulinho, Ramires y Willian.
Forwards: Bernard, Fred, Hulk, Jô, Neymar.
This will be Marcelo's first World Cup with Brazil, since he was pre-selected but finally left out of the final 23 back in 2010. Michel Bastos was Brazil's starter during the 2010 World Cup. Good luck, Marcelo.
