Fabio Coentrao Officially Ruled Out For The Remainder Of The 2014 World Cup

Multiple media outlets are confirming that the unfortunate Portuguese Madridista's World Cup sojourn is over after suffering a thigh injury against Germany.

Scans yesterday revealed that Coentrao "suffered a second degree strain on the adductor muscle in his right thigh," according to the Daily Mail.

In a statement that carried ominous tones for Real Madrid fans, the Portuguese football federation declared that:

"Due to the severity of the injury, he will be unfit for competitive football for a period which extends beyond the duration of the World Cup"

An understandably morose Coentrao said:

"It's a very sad moment for me, and one that I want to forget as quickly as possible...I can't help the team or do anything for the team, the preseason starts in one month so I have to think about getting better by then so I can help Real Madrid"

Managing Madrid wishes Coentrao a smooth, speedy and restful recovery although it seems that he could miss the first few friendlies with Real Madrid. Let's hope that he comes back stronger than ever.
