Diego López is set to leave Real Madrid. This is what the club wanted. Once again, Iker Casillas has won the battle. It would have been risky for Real Madrid to sell Casillas considering how important he is to many fans, and that's why López has finally been the chosen one to leave, according to La Sexta Deportes and confirmed by sources within Real Madrid close to this site.
Real Madrid will be able to announce the signing of Keylor Navas after López departs, and then both Navas and Casillas will fight for the starting spot. It's highly unlikely that Ancelotti decides to rotate his keepers again, so Navas should easily take the role, as he's proven to be in better form than Casillas over the last season. If that happens, a potential departure by Casillas should not be ruled out either, as Real's captain doesn't accept a secondary role that easily. There aren't many clubs willing to give Casillas a big contract though, so he might be forced to stay and finally accept Carlo Ancelotti's decision to bench him.
