Carlo Ancelotti: "Di Maria asked to leave Real Madrid"

The Italian coach spoke the day before the second leg of the Supercup and said that Di Maria asked to leave the club. He also confirmed that the winger rejected a contract offer from the club.

This is the first time we hear a Real Madrid representative speaking clearly about Di Maria. And the truth is Carlo Ancelotti went straight to the point.

Di Maria asked us to leave this summer. Then, he rejected an offer from the club. If he stays here, he will be used and he will not be a problem for us, but he's the one who needs to make up his mind and find an answer to this question.

Carlo is probably trying to make a point here. Real Madrid do not want to sell Di Maria. The player wants to get a bigger contract and a guaranteed role in the squad, something that Carlo and Perez are not willing to offer. Therefore, Di Maria is the one who needs to solve this problem and decide what to do now, but it's not the club's decision to sell the player.

Ancelotti also explained that Cristiano Ronaldo will be available this Friday.

Cristiano Ronaldo trained well today, he feels well and he will be available tomorrow. Obviously, that means he could start.

Once again, Real's coach did not confirm which goalkeeper is going to start against Atleti, but he did hint that the one player defending Real's goal on Friday's derby could be the starter this season.

When asked about Toni Kroos' versatility, Ancelotti explained that the German player will be used on all three positions.

We will keep playing with a three-man midfield. Kroos has great versatility and that means he will be used everywhere possible. I don't know yet if I will play him more deep or as a central midfielder. He has the quality to do well in all three positions in our midfield line.

Ancelotti also said that he will make some changes to the squad, meaning that players like Varane, Isco, Coentrao or even Di Maria himself might get a chance to start. He spoke about Khedira's situation as well.

Khedira's situation is different. He has contract with us and he rejected our offer to extend it. We'll see what happens.
