Following the Champion's League draw today, one in which Real Madrid fared pretty well in, the award for UEFA Best Player in Europe was awarded and it came down to three men. Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben and Manuel Neuer all put up fantastic seasons, both for club and country for the most part, and were selected as finalists for this honor.
However, one man stood above all and that man was Cristiano Ronaldo. While he didn't have the kind of World Cup he would've liked, he scored an astonishing 17 goals in the Champions League, a competition record, en route to Real Madrid finally winning that coveted tenth European title (and beating Robben and Neuer's Bayern Munich side in the process). He also contributed a fantastic 31 goals in 30 league games last season while often playing through injuries late in the season.
This is the second award that CR has picked up this year following his second Ballon d'Or trophy. Robben finished second in the voting while Neuer finished third.
I'm really happy. Thank you for my teammates because without the team, individual awards won't be possible.
