Real Madrid extend Karim Benzema's contract

The club announced today that Karim Benzema is here to stay.

Despite speculation about Radamel Falcao joining Real Madrid, either as a rotation option or someone to push Karim Benzema for the starting spot, the club announced today that they have full faith in the Frenchman as they put pen to paper to extend his contract through to 2019.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Benzema started last season well, scoring in the first two games with his contribution seeing Real Madrid make their best start in the league in several years. He had an up and down first half of the season as the team adjusted to a new formation, but turned things up a notch in the winter, becoming a vital part of Real Madrid's "BBC" attack.

According to Ben McAleer of Whoscored, Only Messi (97), Ronaldo (84) and Vela (51) have directly contributed to more goals than Karim Benzema (48) in the last two La Liga seasons.

However, no matter what his output in the league or CDR, it's the Champions League where Karim Benzema always shines, with a fantastic record of 36 goals in 64 Champions League matches.

While this club could use another out-and-out striker as backup for Benzema, it's hard to imagine another striker having such synergy with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. There are flashier players with bigger overall goal tallies playing as main men; but to find a big name striker content to facilitate and create for others before worrying about his own goal tally is difficult and is now one which Real Madrid won't have to worry about for the next few years after this extension.

Congrats to Big Benz on his new deal.
