Many important clubs around Europe had tried to sign Ødegaard, and he said why he finally decided to come to Madrid:

The reason why I chose Real Madrid is because this is the best option for me to improve, as they have the best facilities and the best club structure. Becoming a Real Madrid player is a dream come true, as this is the best team in the world.

There have been a lot of rumors regarding which his role in Real Madrid will be, but Martin stated that he is willing to work hard to improve and help both Castilla and Real Madrid:

My goal is to get to be such a good player as I can, but I don't care right now if I will play in Real Madrid's first team or second team, as I will be delighted to help both of them. Time will tell where I belong, but now the most important thing for me is to grow up.

The press conference started with a one-hour delay, and there were even people claiming that there had been a problem in the medical examination, but there was not any:

It is true that I was suffering some pain in a foot some days ago, but I am ready to train and play now.

When he was asked about Castilla, Ødegaard stressed how delighted he is to play for Real Madrid's second team, denying any claims about him only showing an interest in coming to Madrid if he was going to join the first team:

Of course, that Real Madrid's second team is a serious team where I can improve under the supervision of someone as important as Zidane has been crucial for me to decide to come here.

Emilio Butragueño, who accompanied Ødegaard in his first press conference in Madrid, explained what Real Madrid's plan for Martin and his father is:

He will train both with the first team and with Castilla and, in principle, will play for Castilla, although he will be at Carlo's disposal if he needs him. Later on, he will take part in the first team's next pre-season, and we will see what happens next.

Martin's father is a former football player and highly qualified coach that was in an important Norwegian club, and he will become a coach at our Academy now.
