Just when everybody is reporting Real Madrid's interest in José Luis Gayà, Spanish show La Sexta Jugones claim that Los Blancos want to sign Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti. Umtiti, who is still 21 years old, can play as a center-back but also as a left-back, and Jugones' report indicates that Real Madrid would want him to play on the left.
Umtiti is a good prospect, but his not a natural left-back. His versatility would be good for the roster's depth though, but if Real Madrid want to sign a player to compete with Marcelo and replace Coentrao, José Luis Gayà would likely be a better fit. Furthermore, Umtiti would not be as cheap as Gayà, who has a €18 million buyout clause on his contract. The potential negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais over a potential Samuel Umtiti move would be long and expensive.
One thing seems certain. Real Madrid are looking to sign a left-back.
