Copa del Rey, Atlético de Madrid vs Real Madrid: Player Ratings

Keylor Navas: 5. While there's nothing he could have done about Atlético's two goals -- he almost saved the penalty -- , Keylor is not offering the same kind of performances he used to put on while he was Levante's goalkeeper. Right now, he doesn't deserve to be Real Madrid's starting goalkeeper, even though there were moments in the season in which it could have been otherwhise.

Álvaro Arbeloa: 1. Disastrous performance by Arbeloa. A fan favorite, the right back doesn't deserve to be in this club anymore. He cannot fill Carvajal's shoes and Nacho should be the backup as soon as possible. There's just nothing he can get done on the pitch.

Raphaël Varane: 4. He made a terrible mistake during the first half that could've cost his team a 1-0 deficit. He made it up with a nice-looking tackle inside the box, but he can't afford those mistakes if he wants Pepe's spot.

Sergio Ramos: 2. Ramos single-handedly gave Atlético de Madrid the lead with a silly penalty during the second half. After two replays, it could be seen that Raúl García was grabbing him too, but Ramos' hug inside Real's box was just unforgivable in a close tie. One of those mistakes that give courage to those who argue that he's not the world's greatest center back.

Marcelo: 5. Marcelo was decent, and he was one of Real Madrid's main weapons upfront that tried to disrupt Atlético's defensive system. His spark wasn't enough for Real to get a goal, but he should not be blamed for this loss at all. Still, it was disappointing to see him complaining to the press after the game, saying that "Atlético just play through balls". That's the kind of comment Xavi would make.

Kroos: 4. This was another disappointing performance by Kroos. His control of the ball and the tempo of the game was decent, but he also showed why he was an attacking midfielder until last season. His defensive intensity was nowhere close to Atlético's.

Khedira: 3. Ancelotti chose him to provide that physical presence required against Simeone's Atlético, but Khedira failed to make an impact.

James: 3. The Colombian attacker has arguably been one of the biggest disappointments over the last couple of games for Real Madrid. He lacked the rhythm and hunger to harm Atlético.

Isco: 6. One of Madrid's brightest spots. When the team was lost after the 2-0 goal, Isco was the only player who demanded the ball and tried to make something happen.

Bale: 2. Invisible. That is all.

Benzema: 2. Real Madrid did not feed him, but still one expected a bit more out of Benzema when Real Madrid aren't creating chances, given his creativity.

Ronaldo: 3. Came in later on after being left on the bench. Tried his best, but he's not in his best form by any means.

Jesé: 5. Got it going through the right wing and caused a lot of problems to a well-organized Atleti defense.

Carvajal: -. He did not have enough time to get graded.
