Real Madrid scored their opening goal on the 8th minute and never tried to get another one to extend their lead at the Vicente Calderón. That obviously ended up haunting Benítez's men as Atleti managed to score the equalizer late in the game thanks to a big mistake by Álvaro Arbeloa, who had entered the game replacing the injured Dani Carvajal.

Maybe Real Madrid wouldn't have lost 2 points with Carvajal on the pitch but their overall performance and gameplan was something very disappointing to watch given the quality of the players that were on Real's side. Why were Modric, Kroos and Kovacic forced to defend when they have the skills to dominate the tempo of the game and the ball. Rafa Benítez has some of the world's greatest players at his disposal and he should change his coaching style if he wants to succeed at Real Madrid.
