As time was winding down in the first Clasico of the season, Isco Alarcon did what many fans surely felt like doing and lashed out at Neymar, Barcelona's ascendant superstar. While many of those fans applauded his willingness to mix it up on a day where his teammates looked like they couldn't be bothered, the referee and league's disciplinary body was less forgiving and slapped him with a two match ban. According to the referee's report, Isco was awarded a straight red for, "a kick against an opposition player, with excessive use of force, with the ball not being within distance to be played."
Isco will now miss league games versus Eibar and Getafe. In the big scheme of things, this isn't a death blow for the club as neither opponent is particularly that threatening and lord knows that Madrid has enough attacking midfielders to cover for him. On the other hand, kicking out like that versus Neymar, no matter how frustrated Isco may have been, was uncalled for and leaving your team shorthanded for two matches is never a burden you want to bear.
Hopefully he learns from this and avoids such incidents going forward as the team will need all hands on deck to overturn its league deficit.
