Things cannot get worse for Carlo Ancelotti after losing both Sergio Ramos and James Rodríguez to injuries. Marcelo will also miss the Madrid derby after getting booked against Sevilla, meaning that Ancelotti's defensive line will be as thin as ever.
With Ramos and pepe likely out, Varane and Nacho will be Real Madrid's center-backs, meaning that Carvajal and Arbeloa will play on the flanks, unless Fàbio Coentrao recovers from his small -- but persistent -- problems. It will be interesting to see how the defensive line reacts to these absences, but Atlético de Madrid will surely be a tough challenge, especially on set pieces, where Nacho is not as tall and strong as neither Ramos nor Pepe.
Nacho Fernández completed a good performance against Sevilla, but Atlético de Madrid at the Calderón will certainly be a different kind of challenge for him. One that nobody knows whether he's ready for or not.
