UPDATE: James Rodriguez Out 2-3 Months

A foot injury puts the attacking midfielder's season in jeopardy.

Bad news for Real Madrid. As if Sergio Ramos being sidelined for a couple weeks wasn't enough, the club found out today that James Rodriguez, star summer signing, has broken the fifth metatarsal on his right foot and will be going under the knife ASAP. The estimated time out for this kind of injury ranges anywhere from 6-12 weeks depending on the source you ask as well as the natural recovery capabilities of the player.

If you recall, this happened to Marcelo a couple seasons ago and he missed 86 days due to it. It also happened to Xabi Alonso and he missed 70 days so at least there is a bit of a wide range of recovery time. Additionally, the Real Madrid league season runs well into May so we should be seeing him return by the end of the season, plus Luka Modric is slated to return to team training very soon (maybe even as early as next week) so at least the club has a bit of cover.

That being said, this is still a pretty big blow as James has provided more than a decent offensive return so far into his first Real Madrid season. Expect in-form Isco to take his spot once Modric returns, as well as a combination of other players such as Asier Illarramendi, Sami Khedira and maybe even Lucas Silva.

All the best to Rodriguez as he battles back from his injury.
