According to reports coming out of the Portugal camp, Pepe will return to Madrid and will not play in Portugal's clash versus Cape Verde due to a bruised thigh. The centerback has missed several national team training sessions over the last few days though the injury does not appear to be anything serious according to most reports.
Him being allowed to return to Madrid shouldn't come as a surprise as the Portuguese starting 11 will be heavily rotated versus the coming friendly against Cape Verde following a 2-1 European Championship qualifying win over Serbia. This also means that Cristiano Ronaldo and Fabio Coentrao will get the game off and will not be at risk of picking up injuries. All in all, this benefits Madrid in the long run as the three players will come though the FIFA break relatively unscathed.
Pepe will join several other Madrid players back in the Spanish capital who have completed their international duties, such as Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Marcelo.
