La Liga, Real Madrid vs Málaga: Player Ratings

Iker Casillas: 6. Not a busy game for the captain. Málaga just had two shots on target and scored one goal, the other shot being a fairly easy one for Casillas. His true exam will come next Wednesday against Atlético.

Álvaro Arbeloa: 5. Real Madrid needed a bigger offensive contribution from their right-back against an organized Málaga side, but Arbeloa is not that kind of player. He had some mistakes on Real's own half that could've cost Real Madrid a goal.

Pepe: 6. Played decently but lost his mark on Málaga's goal. Right now, it might be fair and reasonable to start Varane over him next Wednesday, considering how well the French played against Atlético.

Sergio Ramos: 7. Ramos played just like Pepe but didn't make a mistake like the Portuguese's. Málaga did not do much offensively, so his game was calm.

Marcelo: 6. His passing wasn't very accurate tonight, but it's true that he tried to make some interesting plays upfront, combining well with Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco.

Toni Kroos: 8. Kroos controlled the game well for Real Madrid, as always. His positioning on defense was good and Málaga hardly ever had a chance to make runs at his back.

Luka Modric: 7. The Croatian player performed well, but not as brilliantly as he is used to. He picked up a worrying knee injury that could keep him out of Wednesday's Champions League fixture. However, it should not be worse than that.

Isco Alarcón: 6. Yet another mediocre performance from the midfielder, whose confidence appears to be really low. He will likely be an important player next Wednesday

James Rodríguez: 8. The Colombian player scored a very beautiful goal to increase Real Madrid's lead. Other than that, just like his team, he was quiet.

Gareth Bale: -. Left the game on the third minute and his presence on next Wednesday's Derby is questionable.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 7. Scored his goal but missed a penalty, something that doesn't happen very often. He will need to improve his accuracy for the Champions League game if Real Madrid want to go through.

Chicharito: 7. Good performance by the Mexican striker, who came on for Bale on the third minute. He showed that he can be useful in this squad.

Illarramendi: 6. Decent defensive performance. Illarramendi helped his team when needed, but is he ready enough to fill Modric's shoes next Wednesday?

Carvajal: -. Not given enough time to make a huge impact.
