Real Madrid confirmed Karim Benzema's injury. The French striker has a sprained knee and is out of the Darby.

Reports from Spain indicated this past Monday that Karim Benzema was not going to feature in Wednesday's decisive Champions League match against Atlético de Madrid. Apparently, the French striker has a sprained knee and has not been able to recover in time from that injury which he picked up in the first leg at the Calderón.

To make things worse, Benzema has not trained with the squad this Tuesday, meaning that he will almost surely miss the Derby. Although Ancelotti was feeling optimistic about Benzema's chances of recovering just in time, one week wasn't enough for his injury to heal completely.

Furthermore, reports in As suggested this morning that Benzema will be risking a serious set back if he decides to play through this injury. All things considered, Benzema and Real Madrid should play it safe and decide to sit this one out. After all, it might be better to start a healthy player this time.
