Varane wants to be a starter, just like every player on Real Madrid's roster. It's true though, that for him, it might be a little bit more frustrating to sit on the bench when he has offers from almost every elite club in Europe. Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have reportedly been interested in signing Varane away from Real Madrid, offering around €50 million in exchange. Is the French defender really considering his departure?
Two years from now, Varane will become a guaranteed starting defender for Real Madrid. Pepe is 32 years old and while he's currently offering great performances, a time will come when his decline will be evident. Varane seems mature enough to realize that even if Pepe signs a contract extension, his mid and long-term future in this club will not be in danger.
There is no question that Varane is indeed a future Real Madrid captain if he decides to stay. It might be tempting for him to take the money and an undisputed starting spot elsewhere, but he should also have in mind what happened to Gonzalo Higuaín, Mesut Özil or even Ángel Di María's careers when they decided to go after such things instead of sticking around and fight for their spots.
