When Real Madrid completed Keylor Navas' signing last summer, many people expected the Costa Rican to earn the starting spot over Iker Casillas. After all, he had displayed absolute brilliance during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in which he carried his modest Costa Rica side to the Quarterfinals. One season later, Keylor Navas has started just 11 games for Real Madrid, most of them meaningless matches in which Real had nothing to play for.
Reports from AS and La Sexta indicate that Navas could be forced to leave the club if Iker Casillas stays in the Spanish capital and Los Blancos sign De Gea. The deal for the Manchester United keeper seems all but done and Casillas is willing to stay until the end of his contract, so things aren't looking bright for Navas.
Keylor hasn't been given enough chances to prove his worth, and it's also true that his lack of confidence and rhythm have been visible in the matches he's started. However, selling Navas and keeping Casillas as a reserve goalkeeper would be a head-scratching decision to say the least. In the end, it will all depend on Iker Casillas' decision.
