Less than one week removed from the finale of the 2014-2015 La Liga season, the powers-that-be announced today that the 2015-2016 season will kick off on the weekend of August 15. Along with that, the European Super Cup will be played on August 11 and will feature Europe League champions Sevilla versus the winner of the Champions League between Barcelona and Juventus. The date of the Spanish Super Cup between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona is still up in the air as that date is dependent on whether or not Barcelona wins the Champions League.
All in all, this date is just a little surprising given that the 2014-2015 league season kicked off on August 25, a full 10 days later. But in the end, it shouldn't make too much of a difference for Real Madrid as they'll have far less of a congested schedule this time around as compared to last season when they had two cups to contend with.
