Marco Verratti was one of Carlo Ancelotti's targets this summer, but the Italian midfielder would still be willing to join Real Madrid without Ancelotti on the bench, according to French newspaper L'Equipe. "Verratti wants to leave PSG to take a step forward in his career as a footballer and is considering a move to Real Madrid", per that report.
Some could think that Benítez would rather sign a pure defensive midfielder to improve the team's defensive balance, but the rumors about Verratti and Real Madrid will not stop any time soon. The Italian is a great midfielder but his positioning isn't that great and the team would possibly struggle defensively with him alongside Kroos and Modric, but his skills on the ball and his great passing would make him the perfect heir to Luka Modric's throne in this squad.
It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid make a move for him this summer.
