Along with the announcement that Rafa Benitez will be the new manager Real Madrid, the team and Benitez himself announced the staff which will be assisting him in his daily duties at the club. The staff will be:
- Fabio Pecchia, Assistant Manager
- Antonio Gómez Pérez, Analyst/Assistant Manager
- Xavi Valero, Goalkeeper Coach
- Paco de Miguel, Trainer
- Pedro Campos, Scout
His team brings a healthy mix of playing experience as well as coaching at various levels in a number of leagues. When the subject of his staff came up, Benitez seemed confident about their presence as well as their backing from the club.
Fabio Pecchia and Antonio Gómez will be coaches who will help me on a daily basis, great professionals. Xavi Valero will be our goalkeeper coach and Paco de Miguel our physical trainer, whom I have worked with for a long time and are great as well. Real Madrid have never questioned my staff since the negotiations started.
Much has been made about this club's staff over the last year or two, including rumors that the new manager would be surrounded by a new group of world class technicians to try and maximize the ability and physical condition of the players, but that doesn't appear to be the case as Benitez appears to have full confidence in a team with which he has extensive history.
